Community B.O.H.I.O. is a 501(c)(3), non for profit agency, located in New York State, that was created to amplify the needs and voices of Taino People, Taino Descendants and Caribbean Indigenous peoples while also servicing our local mainland (U.S.) communities by creating equitable solutions to current issues.
What we currently offer:
- Seed banking – to ensure food sovereignty, security and food accessibility to families & communities.
- Free Doula Consultations – ensuring peace of mind for birthing families by educating, informing and creating support prior, during or after birth
- Free birthing plans, checklists, and resources
- Free online resume template
- Sponsorships to other non-profit and/or community led programs
How we are looking to Expand:
- Creating a community fridge and pantry
- Creating (or assisting in expanding) a community garden
- Creating an “Inspiring Change” scholarship focused on community activism
- Sponsoring Hurricane relief supplies to the US and Caribbean
- Creating Online elementary inspired education tools to continue the promotion and cultural continuity of Taino Caribbean Indigenous values and language
What we’ve done so far:
- Sponsoring the seeds for the Northern Parkway PTA Spring Festival in Uniondale NY
- Sponsoring proceeds towards a Women’s pop-up clinic in San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Sponsoring & sending school supplies to two elementary schools in Ponce, Puerto Rico
- Sponsoring 3 students in Caribbean Botanical virtual education classes
- Sponsoring private language classes for descendants of Taino, Caribbean Indigenous First Nation Adults via a google virtual classroom
